I love to read and sometimes I am inspired to write songs based on novels, but this is the first time I’ve written a song inspired by a poem! The poem is called “Slow Down” from the poetry book “Love Without Borders” by author Virginia Martin. It’s a beautifully inspirational poem. I loved writing this song on the ukulele!

Lyrics for this original song:

Verse:
There are many things I’m grateful for
Like the sound of the birds in the trees, oh how they soar
The fight our hearts give us everyday
The faith and the hope when we pray
Pre-Chorus:
‘Cause I’m grateful for the little things
The emotions and joy that life brings
The twinkle of the stars,
The dreams that get us very far when we spread our wings
Chorus:
I’m grateful for the little things, the little things, the joy that life brings (x2)
Verse:
I know there’s a fighter in me
A voice amidst the crashing sea
And I’m just gonna let it guide me
Listening to my heart, I finally see
Pre-Chorus:
‘Cause I’m grateful for the little things
The emotions and joy that life brings
The twinkle of the stars,
The dreams that get us very far when we spread our wings
Chorus:
I’m grateful for the little things, the little things, the joy that life brings (x2)
Bridge:
You give me the strength I need
You are amazing, amazing and I am free
Now I can finally fly
I can be me, be me, one of a kind
Chorus:
I’m grateful for the little things, the little things, the joy that life brings (x2)
